Uuuuurgh So this is my first review Hi.So, why the 1 star review you might ask Well I think most of Addison Cain s readers enjoy really dark romance but this wasn t romance At all A good counter argument to that would be that the book is filed under dark fantasy onand called a dark, sinister Omegaverse Reverse Harem tale for those with twisted tastes and a passion for unabashed bad boys in the book description So there s that Calling the three alphas bad boys is a stre Uuuuurgh So this is my first review Hi.So, why the 1 star review you might ask Well I think most of Addison Cain s readers enjoy really dark romance but this wasn t romance At all A good counter argument to that would be that the book is filed under dark fantasy onand called a dark, sinister Omegaverse Reverse Harem tale for those with twisted tastes and a passion for unabashed bad boys in the book description So there s that Calling the three alphas bad boys is a stretch, though The beginning of the book also comes with this warning This book is intended for adults only and contains scenes featuring total power exchange which may make some readers uncomfortable So no mention of any romance, truth be told. But I digress SILENT CAPTIVE WREN S SONG, 2 doesn t contain anysevere or detailed warnings than any of her other books, so here I ll add a list of the sexual content and some plot details you might find of interest view spoiler All the sex stuff Vaginal intercourse Anal fingers and penis Fisting Intercourse by forcing a knot through the vaginal opening Cunnilingus Fellatio male on male and female on male Dirty talk Forced orgasm feeling shamed for induced pleasure Slut calling cum slut , fucking slut , dirty slut Overall some true sexual sadism that would have made Marquis de Sade smile I might have forgotten some stuff, but that s basically it All the plot stuff Cheating Well, they never said they were monogamous in the first place, soooo Male on male sexual acts Rape and dubious consent Violence against Wren, excluding the sexual violence Kieran, por ejemplo, slaps her so her lip bursts, later she loses finger nails and breaks bones from a fight she technically started hide spoiler When you, as a reader, feel like the best course of action for the heroine or main character is to jump off a cliff and die, you know something s up That was at least what I felt like when reading about Wren I wanted her to die, because her arc is so very miserable and painful, and there is no light at the end of her tunnel But wait , you might say This is a daaaaark romance novel there re not supposed to be flaring disco lights and unicorn sparkles and sh t Well, yes You re right I, too, wondered Why didn t I enjoy WREN S SONG REASON NUMBER 1 Concerning the romance or lack thereofLike I said This is not a dark romance novel, not in my book And that s perfectly okay, if that s your thing I do, however, consider all of her other novels to be romance or contain elements of romance I even consider her short story CATACOMBS, featured in the anthology WHEN THE DARK WINS, to be a hundred timesromantic than this And WHEN THE DARK WINS clearly states in its description no romance, only darkness, no HEA, yadda, yadda, yadda And I loved CATACOMBS to bits Even though it s really dark and contains many of the same sexual elements as WREN S SONG My only wish was for it to be longer I also love all her other works 5 stars all around The reason I don t like WREN S SONG is because the Hs or the heros, or the alphas Caspian, Kieran, and Toby, or whatever you want to call them Don t Give A Sh t About Wren There, I said it They re not as obsessed, or enad, or even all that territorial over Wren compared to the other alpha heroes in Addison s works They like f cking her for the time being and the way she smells Aaaaand that s about it for the most part Case closed I thought in the first book that they were only in denial about their feelings for her, but Alas They obviously don t like the idea of bonding, because they think it ll make them weak view spoiler Well, technically Caspian and Toby sort of bonded with her, but it wasn t during estrous, so it doesn t count as much I dunno Toby s just too pathetic sorry and unstable and sadistic for me to care about him, so even if he wants her a littlethan the others it doesn t count hide spoiler But they also don t find her all that special or irreplaceable, compared to the other omegas in their establishment Why isn t the book about Rosie another omega as well, then How would they react if Wren died, or she killed herself or the most likely scenario They accidentally killed her 2 Character developmentThere really isn t any Character development, that is Which was pretty much what I was hoping for, since I thought the alphas feelings towards her would change from the first book Book number two here, is mostly just sex from beginning to end I didn t particularly find the sex scenes appealing, personally, due to a situational factors Rosie, Wren, what s the difference and b too much sadism at least relative to how little they care for her, I guess Like I said, I loved CATACOMBS, sooo We did see some very interesting character development for Wren at the end of the book, but we still, ultimately, ended up back on square one I feel like you would really love WREN S SONG, if, while you were reading ALPHA S CLAIM 3 view spoiler and Claire is being gang raped by those other alphas at Svana s orders, you thought Hmmm, I wish Cain had written this scene indetails And if that s your thing, that s totally fine No sweat It s just not my thing hide spoiler 3 Wren as a character Wren had spent a lot of time pretending since she d been cast down into the mud She was good at it Pretend life wasn t so awful Compartmentalize Survive Wren s an albino omega. She s mute She s defect. She smells good. She s in her early 20s She cares about her two adopted boys. The only thing standing in the way of Wren and the Grim reaper is her love and omega instincts for her two adopted boys, as addressed in the first book I actually find her really interesting as a character, but I also found myself irritated by her feelings for her boys, because they kept her back she becomes a very passive character And She Doesn t Speak communicate I never realized how much I appreciated Shepherd and Clair s conversations until now Jeez She alludes to a special someone who helped her in the past, and that peaked my interest, I ll admit 4 Reverse harem and what s a Alpha omega dynamic really aboutSo Reverse harem One female, several males in one relationship centered around that one female I really like reverse harems It can make the power exchangepronounced or vice versa, makes the female feel really special wanted rare, you havemales with different personalities and sexual preferences, the sex scenes and relationship dynamics can become a lotinteresting Et cetera So I was really excited for this series, needless to say But it wasn t my cup of tea, unfortunately Because it correspond with the criteria I didn t know I had for liking reverse harem in the first place When it comes to alphas and omegas, we can take a little look at the world building Cain is truly the pioneer when it comes to the M F alpha omega genre, and I have yet to find someone who holds a candle to her in this sub genre I personally think that in a vacuum, Wren as an omega acts as a omega and the alphas behave like alphas, but when they meet something just feels off It s a very different dynamic from her other alpha omega novels, in my opinion Because I feel like I m reading a story about just any other omega who s being ed by some alphas In her other books, there s this need and obsession and protectiveness, hand in hand with some violence and disregard of their omega s free will Wren is sick and wounded throughout much of this book, and Caspian, Kieran, and Toby didn t care all that much I sort of wished that had escalatedand she s almost died, or something That would have been interesting In conclusion, this wasn t my cup of tea but that doesn t mean it can t be yours And that s totally okay, if it is I just think Cain s readers shouldn t dive into WREN S SONG with the same expectations they had for her other works A lot of people left 5 star reviews, and that s great I m happy Addison Cain s becomingpopular, and that s she s such a productive writer My 1 star review reflects my personal opinions on this book, but also the fact that WREN S SONG has been split into three very short novels, which is really ing irritating, and a cheap marketing trick I read this book in, like, two hours They re too short, is all I m sayin.I don t know if I ll be reading the next and final installment Probably not I never imagined myself NOT wanting to read an Addison Cain novel, let me tell you that P S A part of me feels like it s a little bit too cruel to leave a 1 star review on one of my favorite writer s books The writing is okay, the grammar s on point And so one, and so forth But that s a given for me And I really didn t like it I regret buying it And I definitely don t want Cain to write books with similar relationship dynamics in the future

I finished this in an afternoon, all the while wishing I was in Addison s head and kinda glad I wasn t This is an incredible view into madness, desire, jealousy, rage All the feels except happiness and peace It s stupendous and a bit shattering to read.First off, DON T read this if you re squeamish Or averse tothan the average dose of dubious consent in your books Don t read this if you re expecting a happy ending because there isn t one A wise reader will check reviews before I finished this in an afternoon, all the while wishing I was in Addison s head and kinda glad I wasn t This is an incredible view into madness, desire, jealousy, rage All the feels except happiness and peace It s stupendous and a bit shattering to read.First off, DON T read this if you re squeamish Or averse tothan the average dose of dubious consent in your books Don t read this if you re expecting a happy ending because there isn t one A wise reader will check reviews before they read a book Be a wise reader instead of an idiot who reads books they won t like then rates them poorly when they should have known better I m putting this on top in the hope that some of thesensitive readers will see it.Wren is, and remains, the strongest female character Addison has ever written While she is bound to some degree by her biology and instincts, she still possesses enough strength to take tiny bits of pleasure when they come her way, grasping them with both hands lest they escape And when she finally explodes, the damage she inflicts is tremendous One fault in this is that I would have loved to see that scene from one of the alpha s POVs I m not going to spoil it, but Ms Cain, if you read this, we want to SEE the alphas hurt, love Throw us a bone and let us see her clock Caspian and break something important For this reason alone, I give it four stars instead of five.Toby Well, I revise my opinion I thought he was insane, but he s not While he is sociopathic, he has a goal and a clearly set plan to achieve his wants I almost admire him Sort of he still squicks me out Kieran develops a muchwell fleshed personality in this book, and it s horrifying And Caspian Confused, tortured Caspian He doesn t know what he wants anythan Wren does I d like to see him developHe s a bit of a whiplash character one never knows what he ll do in any given scene, and it s impossible to predict for Wren and the reader
